The Glen Jorde Collection of North Dakota National Bank Notes contains almost 400 notes from over 200 different banks in 124 towns. Many are unique (19) or one of two known (34) for a bank. There are nine large size #1 notes, five small size #1 notes, and three small size #1 sheets. For a state like North Dakota, there are a significant number of the earlier issues: Series of 1875 notes (both Territorial and State), 1882 Brown Backs (both Territorial and State), 1882 Date and Value Backs.

This exhibit contains 30 highlight notes from the collection, selected by rarity, historical significance, and the bank officers. The signatures on the highlighted notes include: a U.S. Army Surgeon who witnessed and survived Custer’s last stand at Little Big Horn, a local banker/financier who was president of nine National Banks in North Dakota, a Territorial governor who was later indicted for corruption, several state senators, two female bank presidents, two female cashiers, and a few felons. This sample is less than 10% of the collection as a whole.

We hope you enjoy viewing the highlights on exhibit. The entire collection is being sold by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions in a live auction on January 26, 2013. Additional images and information can be found here.
